C4 Helmet (Hardwood) - Mace - $30

I unearthed this highly prototypical helmet which boasts the redemptive pièce de résistance of a faux wood grain (straps not pictured) through The Confederation for the Protection of Heads and Brains (PROHAB). Based out of Vancouver, BC, PROHAB is a non-profit organization which strives to provide aesthetically appealing bicycle helmets free of cost. Since the helmets featured on this blog largely are quite expensive, I'm going to begin focusing on affordability and programs that offer discounted / free helmets. According to the PROHAB facebook page, C4 Helmets are available for FREE in either matte black and matte grey. While these certainly are not the most exhilarating designs available, simply pasting some stickers or cutting out a stencil and shaking up that old can of spray paint can redeem your helmet of its banality.

Protec

Cyphon - Protec - $70

While teetering on that categorical edge of abominable helmets from outer space, the Cyphon offers a merger between the ventilation / functionality of a bicycle helmet and the aesthetic simplicity of a skate helmet. However, a consumer review did list this helmet as an essential skate helmet that, in great vain, merely offers the iconography of a bicycle helmet. This rather pricey helmet is unsuitable for longer rides in warmer weather, but certainly offers a degree of ventilation uncommon amongst the more attractive helmets. The rear of the helmet (images available on the Protec website) features an inexplicable, yet moderately alluring design that resembles haphazard slices from a topographical map.
